Making a Camping Supply List

When you go camping there is a lot to remember to take, especially if you don’t have an RV. It seems there is so much you will need and many people end up forgetting very important items. Making a camping supply list is a great way to not only get organized; it will make your packing go a lot smoother as well.

A camping supply list should be broken down into five sections for the best results. By doing this it’s easier to make sure you don’t forget anything.

Bedding – In this section write down anything you need for sleeping. This could include your pillow, sheets, blanket, cot, sleeping bag, etc.
Cooking – On this part of the list you need to break it down into utensils, cookware, storage containers and bags, as well as the food. In fact you may want to make a separate list for cooking and outdoor kitchen items.
Entertainment – Here is where you list items such as games to play around the camp-fire, skis, fishing equipment, etc. Anything you use for fun should be in this section of your camping supply list.
Bath – The bath list includes things like toilet paper, soaps, toothpaste, rags, towels.
Misc. – You need a miscellaneous list for things like bug spray, shovel, broom, rope, and tools.

Thinking of your camping supplies in this methodical way will be something you will find yourself doing every trip once you try it. There are just too many items to remember off the top of your head, so don’t put yourself through that stress anymore.

If you travel in a RV of some kind you still need to write the list down and then check off the items you already have stored in your RV. You could even stock your RV with foil, toilet paper, and other items as soon as you return home from your current camping trip. You will be cleaning out the RV anyway so why not have it stocked and ready for the next trip.

Making a camping check-list will help you with this task, so when you make it be sure and put the most important camp tool on it. What is the most important camp tool? It’s the shovel! You can purchase a small fold-up shovel if you don’t have room to carry a full-sized one.
The shovel is a versatile tool that everyone needs in their outdoor camp. Even if you travel in style, in an RV, you still need to take a shovel along for those nights you want to sit outside around a camp-fire The shovel can be used for making a fire pit, digging a latrine, moving hot coals, and helping to control drainage if it rains. Rain can make a big mess and get inside your tent if you don’t have some kind of drainage ditch for it to flow down, and having a shovel on hand can save the day.

If you are camping in an area where there are bears, you may want to burry your cooking trash for safety.
Most campers today don’t make their own latrine any more but if the shovel was only used to help with the fire it’s worth taking. Cooking in the coals of a good fire is something that is easy to do so put some meat and potatoes in foil and use the shovel to cover them with hot coals. In 30 minutes you will have a great meal without expending much effort at all. Be sure to cover the hot coals and fire with dirt when done to prevent a brush or forest fire. Helping to preserve our camping sites is up to all of us!
Although the shovel is the most important and versatile camp tool you should also take along a rake and other tools like a hammer, screwdriver, nails, and a wrench. You may never have to use all of them but being prepared will help you sleep a lot easier. Remember the Boy Scout motto? A Boy Scout is always prepared and you should be too.

Making a Camping Checklist

So, you’re going camping. Great news, but did you make your camping checklist? If you didn’t make a camping checklist you may end up being sorry you didn’t. A camping checklist is what makes your camping trip successful and not frustrating. For example, you caught some great bass this morning and they have been cleaned and are ready for the frying pan. You get the seasoning, the pan, and the oil out….no wait… there is no oil! Oh man, you left the oil at home and there is no store for 25 miles. Does this sound familiar? How many times have you gone camping and left something at home you should have brought on the trip? Camping is a lot like Santa Clause; so if he is making a list and checking it twice, maybe you should too!
Many things go on a camping checklist but below is a list of things that many people forget, so be sure and add them to your list.
• Can opener
• Cutting board
• Plastic forks, knives, spoons
• Pot holders
• Whisk broom
• First-aid kit
• Camera
• Matches
• Screwdrivers and wrenches
• Water bottle or canteen
• Compass
• Map
• Pillows
• Sharp Knife
Your list will be a lot longer of course, but these are the items people forget the most often. There is nothing worse than having a sack full of canned goods and no can opener or knife to get the lid off. You may need to start a fire and you have no cigarette lighter or matches to get it started. This means no food to eat unless you like it raw. It’s the little things forgotten that can ruin a great trip in a hurry!
Start your camping checklist by making a list for what you need for sleeping, another list for what you need for cooking, and another list for around the camp and fun activities. Making a camping checklist is one way to insure you have a great time with great food so be sure and take an extra 30 minutes to make one before you pack up the car or RV. You will be so glad you did!

Setting Up Your Outdoor Camp

Setting up your outdoor camp takes a little thought and work, even if you are travelling with an RV. You want your camp to be safe and it doesn’t hurt if it looks nice either. There are a few things you should always take along on every camping trip to help set up your outdoor camp. Those items are a hammer, nails, rake, and whisk broom.

The rake is for clearing off the grounds where your main camp will be, or for clearing a level spot of ground where you want to place a tent. Some camp-sites have leaves, wood debris, and other things that need to be removed for a safe camp. Many insects and even snakes have been known to hide among wood and leaves, so it’s best to clear the ground first and then continue setting up your outdoor camp. If you run across any of those things you will be glad you are at the long end of a rake instead of picking up things with your hands!

Hammer and Nails

The hammer and nails can be used for many unexpected things like making a clothesline in the trees, or helping to hold up a tarp as a privacy partition. You will find many uses for these two items so don’t forget to take them along.

Whisk Brook

Camping supplies,a whisk broom, or a full size broom if you have room, is a real necessity. It’s great for brushing cobwebs and spiders off of camp-site grills or the legs of an old picnic table. Spiders and ants love to crawl on these things so making sure they are all swept clean before you or your children sit down is imperative.

Although not mentioned, in the list for setting up your outdoor camp, you might want to include some basic tools on that list. You never know when something is going to break, so having a few tools such as screwdrivers and wrenches might come in handy as well.

Once you get the ground free from leaves and branches it’s time to set up the rest of your outdoor camp. When doing so think out a plan of where you want everything before you start. When camping outdoors it’s nice to have everything in a convenient place. The goal is to make your trip as easy as possible so you have more time for fun activities.

Getting your outdoor camp completely set up should only take about an hour unless you are putting up a large tent, so take your time and do it right the first time. Setting up a proper outdoor camp is a great way to start your camping vacation.

Camping is one of the oldest, yet most popular recreational activities around today. People never get tired of getting fresh air, sunshine, and playing in the water. Most people today spend at least eight hours a day stuffed into an office or cubicle and hardly ever see the light of day. For many people it’s dark when they leave home for their commute and dark when they get home. For that reason fun in the sun and water recreation is at the top of the list of fun things to do.

For most people fun in the water means swimming, boating, skiing, or fishing. All of those are fantastic but maybe it’s time to create or play some water games that the entire family can participate in. Check out these two silly but fun games for new camping ideas.

Noodle Charades – In this game you take one of those long tube-like foam floating tubes and use it as a prop to create an object, or use it to create something you are doing. Your friends and family must guess what the answer to your noodle charade is and the winner gets a point. The first person to get to ten points wins. Everyone gets a turn at noodle charades so just keep going down the line and once everyone has done it, start over if nobody has won. This game will make you laugh until your sides hurt!

Spin and Dive – In this game everyone stands in a circle and one person is left out. The person left out closes their eyes while someone inside the circle puts a small but heavy object on the lake or ocean bottom (something that won’t float). Once it’s hidden somewhere in the circle the person on the outside of the circle is allowed to come in and must dive under the water and find it with their eyes closed. They get only three tries and if not found they are eliminated. If they find it they get in line and when it comes to their time again they will repeat the process. This game continues until everyone is eliminated except the winner. All participants must stay in the game to help form the circle even after they lose.

Water games are easy to make up and fun for everyone. It is always nice to have games where children and adults can play and compete at the same time. Of course the adults should at times let the children win some, but not all the time. Losing helps build character as well as winning teaches how to win graciously.

Getting ready for a week-end outing, or a long camping trip? If so, you can save yourself lots of time at the camp-site by doing some camping menu preparation. Camping menu preparation can be done the week before you take your trip and will make your outing a lot easier and more enjoyable. It’s easy to do, so just follow the steps below to start your very own camping menu.

First, take the number of days you will be on your trip and multiply by 3 meals, then multiply that number times the number of people you will be feeding. After doing the math you will know how many individual meals you need to plan for. This will help you figure out the amount of food you need to take. The easiest way to do this is to write down your main course ideas on a piece of paper. From there you can decide what vegetables you want to go with each entrée and what desert, if any.

Secondly, think of what sauces, condiments, or seasonings you need to cook those items and add them to your camping menu list. Once you have the entire week’s menu you can make a separate list of healthy snacks and fruits you want to take.

What Camping Menu Items Can You Prepare Ahead of Time?

At least 50% or more of your camping menu items can either be prepared or partially prepared before you ever leave home. To save time and work on your vacation be sure and slice, dice, and chop all vegetables and fruits and store in zip-lock baggies. It doesn’t take long to cook the vegies once you get your campfire going. For the meat entrees you can cook them at home or at the campsite. If you plan on cooking at the campsite try and create menu ideas that can be cooked in foil or in a skillet.

To cut down on how many seasonings you have to carry you can simply season the raw vegetables and any raw meat beforehand as well. Preparing a camping menu is really quite simple and just takes a little planning and preparation before you take off for your trip. What’s Up With The Camping Menu Today?

Camping Menu today is certainly not the same as camping years ago. People didn’t worry about having a camper, let alone a tent. They slept under the stars on cots or in sleeping bags, and hung tarps between the trees for a little privacy. Ah…the good old days! And what’s up with the camping menu nowadays. Camping Menu Doesn’t anyone know how to eat more than hotdogs, hamburgers, or sandwiches around the campfire?

Most people that camp today have an RV of some kind or at least a tent yet they still lack some creativity when it comes to the camping menu. Below are some ideas to help make your camping menu a lot better.

Camping Menu

Melons – Prepare watermelon and cantaloupe ahead of time and carry ready to eat in zip lock baggies. Eating fresh melon, after playing in the water, not only taste good it hydrates you.
Just add water – There are many foods available that are perfect for the camping menu such as instant oatmeal, pancake mix, instant potatoes, pasta, and other foods that you just add water to. Also anything like rice that comes in “boil in a bag” type packaging is great for camping.
Snacks – All the snacks on your camping trip don’t have to be chips and dips, but rather healthy snacks such as beef jerky, nuts, pretzels, etc.
Meats – Just about any type of meat can be cooked on a grill or in a fire pit, so get creative with your camping menu. If you don’t want to prepare the meat at the campsite you can cook all the meats at home and bring stored in a cooler. If your family likes meatloaf it is a great main course for a meal and the leftovers make great sandwiches. You can do the same with roast beef and chicken.

The most important thing about your camping menu is to have fun with it and cook things that don’t take all your vacation time getting it prepared. Get creative and either prepare as much ahead of time as possible or select a camping menu that will take very little time to prepare.

Try spending some of your time outside the RV and just enjoy nature. Just because you have a stove in the RV doesn’t mean you can’t get a great campfire going and roast some of those big fluffy marshmallows or make s’mores.

Camping for many families is not just about getting fresh air; it’s about spending time together as a family unit. It’s no secret that families today are being stretched in many directions and most don’t even sit down for a family meal together.
